Webex Elsevier-Science Direct

Information concernant le prochain webex d'Elsevier

A special webinar featuring industry thought leader Rafael Sidi, Vice President, Product Management, ScienceDirect

Next Tuesday, July 13, 2010
10:00–10:40 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)
15:00-15:40 British Standard Time (BST)

As consumers we are increasingly exposed to applications through social networks and mobile interfaces. These types of tools make it easier for us to manage the oversupply of information. It is therefore, not surprising, that researcher needs are evolving, and new search and discovery demands need to be met. Researchers expect openness and interoperability, personalization of content and enhanced collaboration. As these broad-based technological trends continue to cross over to the scientific community, the time has come to create innovative applications that can deliver “intelligent content”. To make this vision a reality, researchers, institutional leaders, librarians, publishers and platform providers will need to work together to build a new scientific knowledge ecosystem.

While all members of the ecosystem will play a critical role, it is the librarian who can really champion the cause. You not only serve as the knowledge manager and information expert for your institution, but you are also the one who understands the needs of each individual researcher.

During this webcast Rafael Sidi, Vice President of Product Management for ScienceDirect will present his thoughts on the subject, and will cover the following topics:

  • The need for a new scientific knowledge ecosystem and the key trends and technology behind it
  • Current and future implications for the Library and the role of the librarian including opportunities, challenges and best practices for thriving in the new ecosystem
  • A vision of the future, the near and long-term impact of the changing landscape and its potential to accelerate science

Presenter: Rafael Sidi, Vice President of Product Management for ScienceDirect and an expert on research productivity. His work includes “Data is at the Heart of New Science Ecosystem” published in Research Information. He has been with Elsevier since 2001, where he has been instrumental in developing Engineering Village and launching illumin8. He was also the publisher for the Compendex database. Before joining Elsevier Rafael was Director of e-commerce operations at Bolt, a teen-age social networking portal. Rafael holds an MA from Brandeis University and a BS in electrical engineering from Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey.
